9th Grade Biology students explored the movement of water across cell membranes by looking at a dataset produced with a classic classroom experiment. The experiment uses pieces of potato that are placed in six different solutions of water, each with a different solute concentration. The solute is sucrose (table sugar). The solutions range from no solute (distilled water) to a high concentration of solute and are 0.0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, and 1.0 molar sucrose. The 1.0 molar sucrose solution contains 342 grams of sucrose - a lot of sugar! Pieces of potato are cut to similar sizes, weighed, and then placed in one of the six solutions overnight. The next day, the potato pieces are removed from the solutions, blotted dry, and their final masses are recorded. The % change in mass was calculated. A data table and graph were created in Google Sheets and inserted into the students' lab reports.

The Chilhowee R-IV School District is thrilled to announce our partnership with the Pediatric Place Family First Initiative! Together, we're committed to supporting our students and families by providing the resources they need to thrive at school and in life. We invite families to complete a brief survey to help us identify key resources and address potential barriers. This will allow us and Pediatric Place to understand our community's needs better and tailor our efforts to provide meaningful support. A few important notes about the survey: It is completely confidential. Only the Chilhowee R-IV School District and The Pediatric Place Family First Initiative will have access to the results. The information gathered will only be used to help families get the assistance they need. By sharing your valuable input, you’re playing an essential role in shaping the services and resources we offer to our community. Thank you for helping us make a difference! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1rTEtLUwHIYjxZ0zghTtNFqEH6m7E6qbiPgYlH1c2Jpk/edit

Chilhowee families, due to severe temperatures and wind chill, Chilhowee school will not be in session on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. This will be an AMI day, and students must complete AMI assignments for Day 1. These assignments will be due upon return to school. All students should have their AMI folders at home to complete this work. All Dual Credit students will need to log on to SFCC and do their work if needed. At this time, Warrensburg WACC students and Maple Grove students will be transported as normal. The basketball game at Hume is still scheduled as planned. The bus leaves at 3:15 pm.
