pavilion

New Pavilions are going up rapidly at Chilhowee School . One pavilion, a smaller pavilion, is being built nearest the playground to provide shade for teachers and students at recess and other outdoor events; this pavilion is being funded by the district. The second pavilion, the larger of the two pavilions, is being built in memory of former Chilhowee teacher, Kody Jones. Mr. Jones was an advocate of making learning fun and as exciting as possible. Getting students outdoors to enhance learning and student engagement was a goal of Mr. Jones. It did not matter whether he was teaching math, reading, social studies, or science, Mr. Jones loved to provide opportunities for his students to be outdoors in the fresh air. Mrs. Janise Gardner, administrative assistant to the superintendent, has been working with various school organizations and family and friends of Kody Jones', in an effort to have the pavilion completed before students arrive for the 2022-23 school year. Donations were graciously provided by the Chilhowee PTO, the Chilhowee CCTA, and family and friends of Mr. Jones'. The pavilions offer teachers and students many uses, but specifically offer a shaded space for teachers to hold outdoor lessons with students, just as Mr. Jones would have wanted it.
