Fire and Bus Safety Day: Learning Through Hands-On Experiences

Students in preschool through sixth grade recently enjoyed an engaging, hands-on learning experience during our annual Fire and Bus Safety Day! This special event gives students the opportunity to learn important safety skills while exploring the equipment and practices that help keep them safe every day.

Shippy Bus Lines led the bus safety portion of the day, teaching students how to ride the bus safely, follow bus rules, respond to emergencies, and learn more about the equipment and features found on a school bus.

Students then visited the fire station, where the Johnson County Fire Department provided valuable lessons in fire safety. Students learned about stove safety, how to safely exit a building during a fire, and the importance of knowing what to do in an emergency. One of the highlights was the opportunity for each student to practice using a fire extinguisher to put out a controlled fire! Students also explored the fire truck, learned about the tools firefighters use, tried operating a fire hose, and discovered how firefighters’ protective equipment helps keep them safe while responding to emergencies.

We are grateful to Shippy Bus Lines and the Johnson County Fire Department for making safety education such a memorable experience. Both organizations do an outstanding job of turning important lessons into interactive, age-appropriate learning opportunities that keep our students engaged and excited to learn.

Thank you to both organizations for investing your time and expertise in our students and helping them build the knowledge and confidence they need to stay safe!
