The Board of Education met on Wednesday night for the regularly scheduled meeting.  The session was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Mylissa Jennings.  The board approved the agenda and heard from Mr. Marnholtz on the financial update of the district.  The district in January started the month with $825,727.72.  The district received $552,703.32, a majority was the local taxes received from Johnson County.  The district expended $177,566, which left $1,200,865.04 in the district bank accounts.

The board of education received a thank you letter from the staff at the school as well as items from the Warrensburg Career Center as part of board appreciation week.  The consent agenda items were approved by the board.  During the principal reports, Mrs. Rehn and Mr. Jones presented to the board how the multiage classroom has been going and discussed how they have been working together on math standards for third and fourth grade.  The board asked questions after the presentation.  Mr. Marnholtz shared during his report the status of the sidewalk project and the other items with the board.  The  2019-2020 school calendar weather make up days were discussed.  Two days will need to be added in May on the 18th and 19th.  One day will be for the day off on January 16th due to the flu and one day because there have been 6 weather days.

The new business portion of the meeting included a review of the proposed 2020-2021 school calendar.  The change to the start date has affected the calendar by limiting when the district can start school.  The district can not start school earlier than 14 days prior to labor day.  Due to this change in legislation, the district had to choose to lengthen the day or be in session longer into the year to plan on enough time to ensure that the school is in session over 1044 hours.  The days were lengthened by 40 minutes by starting the day at 8:00 am and releasing at 3:30. This allowed for a calendar that has 1104 hours which had over 60 hours built in as make up hours.  This will allow for the district to not have to schedule any makeup days during the school year that are released or cancelled due to weather.  The start date with this day length is August 24, 2020 and the last day of school will be May 14, 2021.  The board will vote on this calendar during the March meeting.

The board had two volunteers for the Wilma Hill Scholarship committee with Wendell Jackson and Mylissa Jennings volunteering to serve.  The board heard the preliminary budget from Mr. Marnholtz.  The budget is showing ending the 2021 FY with a surplus of $11,000.  That will change once the final information on revenues is released by DESE.  The board approved the March meeting date as the 23rd, because of spring break.  The board heard from Mr. Marnholtz how the new day length and shortened calendar would affect the non-certified staff positions.  The board will approve any changes to pay rate or hours during the April meeting.

The board held an executive session after the regular meeting per RSMo 610.021 (3), (6) to discuss personnel and student information.  During the session the board of education approved hiring a HS track coach and JH track coach.  The board approved hiring Brandon Wallace as the Principal for the 2020-2021 school year.

The next meeting for the Board will be on March 23, 2020 at 7:00 pm in the conference room.
