The regular Board of Education meeting was held Wednesday night January 16, 2019.  During the meeting the board of education heard a financial update from Mr. Marnholtz.  The district started the December with $1,008,650.60 in the bank.  The district received $196,265.48 and expended $371,943.01.  The district has $832,973.07 in reserves.  Mr Marnholtz updated the board on the capital reserves with $65,336.77 still in the capital projects fund, the fund should increase when the local taxes are received with an estimation of $136,000 coming from the levy.  

The Board heard the Principal's report from Mr. Murphy.  The district enrollment has increased since the end of last semester, with 14 new students enrolling.  The overall enrollment for the district is 191 students as of Monday the 14th.  The PBS teams did a kickoff with the students the first days of school and discussed general etiquette and behavior issues.  

Mr. Marnholtz shared with the board an update on legislation that has started in Jefferson City.  Several pieces of legislation could impact schools with a new bill introduced to change the foundation formula for schools, expand charter schools, set up educational scholarship programs for payments of tuition (vouchers), and reading intervention requirements.  These bills as well as many others will be monitored to see if there will be an impact on the students in Chilhowee.  

During the old business portion of the meeting, an update on the building progress was shared with the board.  The building got slowed down a little, so the move in date has been pushed to February.  The drywall needs to be finished so that the painting can start, the doors hung, the ceiling and hvac set, the flooring completed, and then the final paint.  The budget for building is on track and will be updated once the items are completed.  

The Board heard the list of candidates for the two open seats for the April election.  The candidates in filing order are: Jared Coulter, Wendell Jackson, and Katrina Anstine.  The district will have an election in April for the two seats.  

The Board approved the summer school session from June 3rd-28th, 2019.  The hours will be 8:00-2:30 with breakfast being served 7:30-8:00 and lunch from 11:30-12.  The focus will be enrichment for k-8 and credit recovery for 9-12.  

The Board approved an update to policies: BBB, BBBB, DC, DG, DJFA, GB, GBEBC, IC, IGAEB, IKE, IKF, IL, KB, JECC, and JHD.  The Board adopted new policy GBAC which replaced policies GCPC and GDPC these two were rescinded.  The new and updated policies can be viewed at the District office.  

The Board approved student activities, which included the JH cooperative for football with Leeton, Shawnee Mound, and the JCCA.  The students will also be able to participate in JH and HS track for the 2019 season.  

The Board approved a change to the staffing for the district.  

Executive session was held as part of the meeting for a legal update as well as personnel issues.
