The Chilhowee Board of Education met Thursday night May 16th for the monthly board meeting.  The meeting was held in the conference room at 7:00 pm.  

The board heard from Mr. Marnholtz on the monthly financial statement for the district.  The district started April with $1,169,468.  The receipts for the month were $146,724 while the expenditures were $157,294.  The district closed April with $1,158,897.  

The board received updates from the Mr. Murphy and Mr. Marnholtz on the school business.  Mr. Marnholtz updated the board on the building addition.  The project was officially completed with the final payment being made in April.  The budget for the project was $875,000 and the total costs for the building was $859,277.  The final cost of the project for furniture and equipment in the spaces was $913,992.  

During the new business portion of the meeting, the board reviewed the summer work project plan.  The current plan is to seek out information for the replacement of the two roof sections that are starting show their age and are in need of updating.  The district will pursue options on covering the cafeteria roof as well as the elementary section of the building.  These two roofs are the oldest and in the most need of repair.  

The district approve the audit bid for the 2019 audit.  Gillum and Gillum will perform the audit this summer after the closing of the fiscal year.  The dates of the MSBA conference were shared with the board so they could schedule attending the conference for professional development opportunities.

The board approved the request for proposals for custodial services. The board will receive proposals for services for night time cleaning of the building.  This will provide an opportunity to analyze our current situation and provide potential savings for the district.    The board also approved increasing the coaching stipends to align with the staff salary increases that have occurred the past couple of years.  

The board held an executive session immediately following the new business to discuss personnel and legal issues.
